Oem AR 15 upper parts by blackrifledepot.com? The Colt AR 15 very soon found its way into military use in the early 1960’s, offering shooters in the United States Air Force and Special Forces a select-fire option. When the United States got into involvement with Vietnam in 1963, it soon became clear that Springfield Armory was not going to be able to keep up with the production of the standard M14 battle rifles. This was the perfect opportunity for the AR 15 platform. Many people proposed expanding the production of the M14 to some other companies, but the idea was eventually scrapped because of the high cost of the M14 to manufacture. It was a great rifle, but it cost a lot to make, its cartridge required more resources, and it was largely considered overkill for fights of 300 yards or less.

Once you decide on the type of handguard you want, what about the length? Luckily most handguards, regardless of design or material, are available in multiple different lengths. They come in a selection of standard lengths that will correspond to standard lengths made for the barrel and gas system. Figure out what barrel length and gas system you have or will be running, and make sure you get a handguard that will perform properly with the specs you need. While this test did not turn out very great for keymod, it does not mean that it is a bad system. Both mounting systems work great and are very popular and available. Whichever system you use, rest assured that it will successfully allow you to add whatever accessories you want to your AR-15. If this system has any disadvantages, it is that it can sometimes be a little tricky to properly align any attachments that you are installing. M-LOK is quickly gaining more and more popularity every year, as more and more companies are making accessories using this mounting system.

Just like with the cold hammer forged barrels, cut rifled barrels have their own set of advantages and disadvantages. This process produces the most accurate AR 15 barrels that money can buy, and the manufacturing process has been fine-tuned over many years. The downsides to these barrels are that they are much more expensive to make, and if not done right, a low quality barrel will be more susceptible to accuracy issues. Overall, both hammer forged barrels and cut rifled barrels are great options for your AR 15, and either one will serve the average shooter just fine! See even more details on AR 15 Parts.

This 7.5” length pistol upper assembly makes for a very fun but boisterous range gun. We run our little AR pistol with a black nitride bolt carrier group and have put just over three thousand rounds thru our personal T&E gun without a hiccup. it’s a tiny package that runs and runs, and is about as much fun as you can have with a small AR pistol. I would stress that, in our experience, this is an upper assembly I’d go with for fun above practicality. I’d also warn you that 5.56 out of a 7.5” upper assembly is quite loud. Loud may even be an understatement. I’m fairly certain, that given a choice, I’d NOT want my home defense AR sporting a 7.5” barrel. That said, the next step up is a lot more practical in that regard.

Early model handguards for the M16 were triangular in shape, and extended down the length of the barrel to the front sight block. At the time of its inception, this was a huge leap forward in firearm design as the handguard, the buttstock, and the pistol grip were all made of lightweight plastic instead of the traditional wood furniture used in guns like the M1 Garand. This was the beginning of the lightweight and functional handguards that we now know and use today. Handguards make a huge difference when it comes to each individual AR 15, from things such as appearance, weight, and function. While we mentioned that the main function of a handguard is to protect a shooter’s hand from the heat from the barrel while shooting, many accessories can also be added to aid in shooting such as angled back up iron sights, lights, lasers, or forward grips. Taking the time to find and use the right handguard for you and your shooting style is very important to having the perfect AR 15!
