Meet Jonathan Brightman and some of his achievements? Downloading and the internet are both a blessing and a curse for musicians. What is your take on the industry as it stands today? Where do you see it heading? Jonathan Brightman: I think the musician will have to catch up with all this technology. In other words, a band may have to use more of their own words, images, actions and give more of themselves up to be noticed. These days anyone can edit a video and put up content. We’re going to have to learn how to be as creative on several formats now. I was hoping to catch you in LA last year, but you weren’t playing a lot of dates. Will you be touring this year? Jonathan Brightman: We hope to at least hit some territories in Europe this summer. Touring in the U.S. has gotten really political. For example, bigger bands are now doing this thing called “buy ons”, which is basically charging their opening band to get added to the bill. It’s rotten.

Jonathan Brightman and Buckcherry: Josh Todd grew up in the Anaheim Hills neighborhood of Anaheim, California and later moved to Lake Forest, California. Early on, Todd fronted the Hollywood glam rock band Slamhound. He eventually met lead guitarist Keith Nelson through their tattoo artist (Kevin Quinn). The duo made a few demos before being joined by bassist Jonathan Brightman and drummer Devon Glenn, calling themselves Sparrow. Sparrow began performing around the Hollywood club scene, receiving a strong, local following due to their old school rock and roll vibe, and were signed to DreamWorks Records shortly after. The group changed its name to Buckcherry after receiving a cease-and-desist letter from a record label called Sparrow (owned by EMI). Although the band’s name is a spoonerism of the late Chuck Berry, the group said it was inspired by a drag queen acquaintance of theirs named Buck Cherry.

Black Robot is a California-based hard rock band formed in 2008 by bassist Jonathan Brightman (JB). Their debut album was released June 8, 2010 on Formosa Records/Rocket Science Ventures Brightman is a founding member of the Grammy nominated band Buckcherry, co-writing and performing on their self-titled debut album, as well as their follow up Time Bomb. After parting ways with Johns, it was announced in December 2011 that Los Angeles singer Jeremy Aric had joined the band. Soon after, they re-entered a Nashville, TN studio with producer Dave Cobb to record their second album titled Woman.

You sound like all of my favourite bands mashed up; there’s AC/DC, Zeppelin, Black Crowes and The Stones. How would you describe your sound? Jonathan Brightman: I like to just call it Modern Classic Rock. Imagine intercepting rock and roll right where it was before things got awful in the music business and continuing from that point. Right before Nirvana perhaps. All though I love Nirvana it spawned some real shit. And I am still baffled about how Limp Bizkit sold millions of records. Hahahaha.

The name is something that I had been holding on to for some time. I conceptualized the figure which you see on the album cover and I wanted that figure to represent the band. I think it’s a strong, menacing figure that isn’t too far from something Iron Maiden would use. Like their mascot Eddie, I think as we begin to gain a fan base and get bigger we’ll be able to have our own identifiable figure that can progress as the band does. We wanted the focus to be on the visuals, we didn’t want the focus to be on the traditional thing, band members; four or five guys in the band. There’s nothing original about five guys lining up in a photo, of course we do that too, but that’s not the focus. We wanted to have a powerful figure that would represent the music and what we stand for.

Ms Jackson believes that such misinformation has poorly informed the public both about her relationship to Michael Jackson, and about her motives for having taken the matter to court. She asserts that the stories which had been published in late-2010 in light of the case have had a damaging effect on her reputation and on her business operations, and she expresses her belief that some measure of responsibility ought to be taken for the detrimental effects that being in the media spotlight can have on one’s repute. For the most part, the collaborations actually hurt the songs. No, “Monster” isn’t the next “Thriller”, as 50 Cent claimed it to be, but it’s a decent song. Jackson sounds awkwardly retro, the beat shuffles ‘n’ sweeps, and it feels right…until you’re thrown next to 50’s uninspired rap that sounds more fitting for a summer blockbuster theme. The same goes for the highly irritating and incredibly repetitive “Hold My Hand”, where Akon belts out the same thing again and again in an equally monotonous pitch. For a lead single, it’s tepid and incredibly campy. Then there’s “(I Can’t Make It) Another Day”, featuring guitar wizard Lenny Kravitz, who churns out a chalky riff that tires 45 seconds into the song. Jackson himself sounds angry, forceful, and dominating, but altogether it doesn’t beg for a re-listen. That’s sort of a must when it comes to his music.

No matter what, Jackson ensured that the melodies were his own, while Riley sought to merge his trademark New Jack Swing with Quincy Jones’ baroque pop. At one point, L.A. Reid and Babyface were brought in to help produce, but none of their contributions made the final cut. Over 60 songs wound up being written over a period of 18 months. It cost $10 million in total, not counting video costs. When Jackson revealed the final tracklist to Riley, the latter expected to see his name once or twice. His compositions incorporate urban, tropical, and contemporary sounds of Latin music. The singles “Conmigo”, “La Chica”, “Dame Tu Love”, & “Una Noche Mas” are now available for streaming on all platforms.

Luis Carlos Suarez Perez was born in Barranquilla, Colombia, surrounded by the great variety of musical influences of the 90s and early 00s. This exposure, increased his appreciation for music at an early age, and kept growing as he would explore new and more classic genres of music. In search of better opportunities, he moved with his family to Miami as a teenager. When he bought his first guitar, he began to improve significantly in his technique with online classes.

While attending college, playing instruments, writing songs, singing live for his friends was Lucas Coast biggest hobby. He formed a band with his musician friends at school, and they performed at various university events. Upon graduation, he had written over 100 drafts of song lyrics. Music production became his next step, while learning basic piano extended his musical growth. With an undergraduate degree in political science and a master’s degree in finance, he’s worked in his industry, while turning his passion for music into Lucas Coast. He took the name “Lucas” by combining his name “Luis Carlos Suarez”, and chose “Coast” as tribute to his musical identity forged by the Colombian and Miami coasts.

Seduction in “Conmigo” is the protagonist, its lyrics recreate the situations of a forbidden and toxic love. The song invites you to leave this type of relationship that damages love, the seduction ingredient in the lyrics makes this theme much deeper and reflects maturity. It also encourages reflection in those who identify or feel something for someone in a relationship that can be harmful. At the time of making this song, they were listening to various options for a new song, and when they combined urban percussions with influences from electronic music, they found the basis of rhythm. This is one of the productions in which Lucas has had creative freedom.

Rhythm Couture artists questions and answers: What do you feel is the importance of music in today’s media, such as YouTube, television, film, etc? Music is a part of storytelling in films for almost a hundred years. The music style has changed so much after these years, but giving the emotional support for film is always the main role of film music. No matter from YouTube video to blockbuster movies, music is always a nice carrier to convey the emotions and subtexts. But in the meantime, music should not overtake the scene, the main character should always be the film itself, unless it’s on purpose. For production music, from my music editor experience, I think it’s important to have sections in your music, it’s much easier to edit with one track with several sections, instead of puzzling so many different tracks and trying to make them sound like a piece of music.
